Directions

Driving directions from San Diego Airport to naval station: From the terminals, follow the signs for Airport Exit / Downtown. There are two ways to get to the naval station: most direct route - leave the airport and proceed on Harbor Drive past the downtown area. Harbor Drive continues along the waterfront and past the commercial shipyards. Turn right at the sign for the Main Gate to the naval station; fastest route - leave the airport and proceed on Harbor Drive for approx 1 - 1.5 miles. Turn left on Grape Street and proceed uphill to the onramp for I-5 South. Go past the exit for the Coronado Bridge and exit at 28th Street South. Go to the end of the street and turn left on Harbor Drive. At the second light, turn right into the naval station main gate.

Directions to NSST facility: Just inside the main gate, turn left (approximately 270 degrees counter-clockwise around a rotary) onto Surface Navy Blvd. At the first stop sign, bear left and continue on Surface Navy Blvd. Just past the post office and before Rice King, turn right onto W. Vesta Street. Proceed towards the piers. At the first stop sign, turn right onto Brinser Street. Just past the first building on the right, turn right into the ship-handling complex parking area. Please see Note 3 below for required Visitor Request form. For those familiar with Naval Base San Diego, the NSST facility is on the waterfront just north of Pier 6.

Notes

  1. Coffee/food. The NSST facility has a coffee mess that provides free coffee. Cold drinks and snacks may be purchased for $0.50. Within two blocks of the NSST facility are Rice King, Subway, McDonalds and the Pierside Cafe.
  2. Base access. The Pass and Decal office is on Harbor Drive just north of the main gate. Hours are 0700 to 1600, Monday through Friday. To acquire a temporary vehicle pass, you will need to show an ID card, driver's license, and rental agreement. During after-hours periods, drive to the main gate and tell the security guards that you need a temporary pass.
